All over the world women are praying empty-handed: some for a crust of bread to feed their children some for escape from bad husbands some for money to be independent but mostly they pray for peace Iraqi women empty palms uplifted supplicating to Allah in Arabic and in Afghanistan their sisters do the same in Pashtu and Nuristani and in America women too are praying: mothers of military wives killed at Fort Bragg by husbands returned from Afghanistan (and maybe soon headed for Iraq) hands that once dandled young daughters now empty.
