Offensive Prayer

by Sabina C. Becker

"If we fast and pray and earnestly seek God's face, then He will hear our prayer and give us relief. One justice is 83 years old, another has cancer, and another has a heart condition. Would it not be possible for God to put it in the minds of these three judges that the time has come to retire?"
--Pat Robertson, calling for a prayer offensive upon the Supreme Court decision to strike down the Texas sodomy law (see Jan Baughman's "A Supreme Being Supreme Court Appeal").

You may weep and fast
and weep and pray
you may.

You may pray and fast
that it comes at last,
you bast—

You may pray what you will
you may pray—and you will
and you will

You will pray and pray
in hate of the gay
as you say

You pray for hate
sponsored by the state
yes        hate

As for me, I pray too
yes, I pray for you—
a swift kick in the crotch will surely do
for hatemongers like you.
