Do You Love Me

by Laura Madeline Wiseman

Poetry

(Swans - August 14, 2006)
Do you love me?

she says to her lover

betting the answer is yes

but still checking.

And when he says yes

she asks

Why do you love me?

He doesn't pause but

says she's nice and sexy and smart.

But why, she says again

fearing he'll pause this time

without a ready list

and have to search for a reason.

Because I love you, he says.

And though she is not satisfied

she is content for the day.
