Poetry
(Swans - February 9, 2009)
The day I die,
I'll go striding barefoot
On the paths of heaven
Tread down unfading asphodels.
I hope these flowers are thornless
And as smelly
As Patterson's curse is
Though they are not thistles
But lily-like flowers
Full of high lineage.
The wayside will be soft,
All covered with white sand
Fine and warm like West Indies' ones.
And in the air, blue scents of Havana
Will draw uneven clouds of smoke.
There will be some music of course
Not necessarily tunes of ukulele
— I also love post-mortem blues
Which may be perfectly fitting
The thoughts whirling into my mind
Someday soon,
The day I die.
