(Swans - July 29, 2013)

immigrants
died by drowning
and their silence
is significant...
they look at you in the night
with a sense
of peace and desperation
and they almost talk to you
of unknown worlds
that appear
and disappear.

amaritudo bitterness
but in the depths
of a cobalt blue sea
the book swallowed
by the seer john
is sweet to the mouth
yet burns the entrails.
thousands of drowned
enclosed in the tomb of the sea
a sea that swallows
those dead from starvation.
the sea's undertow
has blood spilt
between olives,
the olives where a messiah
sweated blood.

and legend whispers
from the seven skies
and from the higher sky
above the messiah
where there are
only those who have had
a bitter life
like an unripe olive.
